Increase in Housing Sales at Midyear – from the Ottawa Real Estate Board at http://orebweb4.oreb.ca/news_release.shtml
Ottawa, July 7, 2006: Members of the Ottawa Real Estate Board sold 1,609 homes in June 2006 compared with 1,466 in June 2005, an increase of almost ten per cent. At the half way point of the year, sales are up 7.5 per cent over last year.
"The inventory of active listings at the end of June are on par with that of last year at this time. The results for the first half of the year point to another record setting year for resale housing in Ottawa," said Board spokesperson Jeff Greenberg. "Clearly, consumers are continuing to display their confidence in both the economy and Ottawa real estate."
The average price of the homes sold in June through the MLS® system in the Ottawa area was $258,526, an increase of almost three per cent over June 2005. The Board cautions that average price information can be useful in establishing trends over time but should not be used as an indicator that specific properties have increased or decreased in value. The average price is calculated based on the total dollar volume of all properties sold.
